Gianfranco Dragotti’s journey in intellectual property began at a young age while still a university student. His first steps in the field involved translating patents for a specialized firm in Rome—an experience that set the foundation for a remarkable career spanning decades.
In 1978, he founded Dragotti & Associati, transforming a small boutique firm into a well-respected national and international leader in intellectual property law. His tireless dedication, strategic vision, and unparalleled expertise played a crucial role in establishing the firm’s reputation for excellence.
A Leader in Institutions and International Associations
Beyond his leadership at Dragotti & Associati, Gianfranco held several prestigious institutional roles. From 2004 to 2010, he served as President of the Italian College of Industrial Property Consultants. In 2015, he became the head of the Disciplinary Council of the Italian Industrial Property Consultants Association, and from 2010 to 2013, he was a member of its Governing Council.
Internationally, he was actively involved in the Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), serving as President of the Standing Committee on PCT from 2013 to 2016 and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Italian AIPPI Group from 1985 to 2004. He also contributed significantly to FICPI, LES, and UNION, where he served as Vice President of the Italian Group.
A Trusted Expert in Intellectual Property
Recognized as one of Italy’s foremost intellectual property experts, Gianfranco frequently served as a court-appointed technical consultant for tribunals in Milan, Venice, Trieste, Rome, Genoa, Bologna, and Turin. His keen judgment and unwavering integrity made him a trusted authority in even the most complex legal disputes.
From 1989 to 2019, he also contributed as a journalist, lending his expertise to the renowned Il Sole 24 Ore’s “L’esperto risponde” column, helping to make complex intellectual property issues accessible to a wider audience.
