Roberto Pistolesi is the new President of FICPI
Cannes, 29 September 2022 – Roberto Pistolesi, partner and CEO of Dragotti & Associati, has been elected President of FICPI, the International Federation of Intellectual Property Consultants. The election to the highest office of this prestigious association took place during FICPI World Congress, held in Cannes from 25 to 29 September 2022.
FICPI (Fédération Internationale des Conseils en propriété Intellectuelle) is the only international NGO whose membership consists entirely of IP attorneys in private practice; as a result, it is driven by a shared interest among like-minded people to promote common solutions and advocacy for private IP practitioners and for their clients, which include private individuals, small businesses, large multinationals, universities, governments and other organizations.
FICPI was founded in 1906 and today has over 5,000 members from 80 states; the centuries-old history and international scope of the federation has allowed it to achieve important goals, including:
- contributing to the harmonization of patenting and trademark registration processes globally;
- intervening with the US Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) on various topics, including software protection and the definition of the scope of protection of an invention;
- contributing to the foundation of ICANN’s IPC, the body in charge of managing all matters related to domain names;
- intervening at the enlarged Court of Appeal of the European Patent Office on aspects such as the patentability of therapeutic and diagnostic methods or biological processes.
As senior patent attorney at Dragotti & Associati, Roberto was already a member of FICPI, with which he has collaborated since 2012 as chairman of the study group on inventions in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology field, before being elected Secretary General of the organization in 2015.
Today, FICPI recognizes once again Roberto’s commitment in the field of intellectual property by appointing him President of the organization during the most important event of the last three years: a World Congress in which members from all over the countries participate to discuss on the latest developments in the field of intellectual property.
“The world of intellectual property is highly dynamic and influences both the success of businesses and the future of our civilization itself” commented Roberto “Being elected president of one of the most important global reference points in this area is a great honor for me”.
In addition to Roberto, five other members of Dragotti & Associati, including the founder himself Gianfranco Dragotti, are members of FICPI, drawing heavily on the association’s know-how to better serve the firm’s clients.
